Andreea Diaconu on Where to Surf, Shop and Eat in NYC

Harper's Bazaar: Tell us about the two Donna Karan Liquid Cashmere fragrances. When do you wear them?

Andreea Diddy: Well, I think it's great that there are two because I kind of have different personalities throughout the day. I like feeling fresh, which I think is the best word for Liquid Cashmere White because it's musky, there's some vanilla, there's a little bit of ylang ylang. I wear that one in the morning and if I'm going out or going on a date, I change my outfit and it feels like I'm completing the journey by adding a spritz of soft and smoky and sensual, which I think Liquid Cashmere Black embodies.

HB: Your hair looks so great in the campaign. What do you do with it normally?

AD: I don't really do anything on a regular basis, but I have a lot of hair so I usually put oil in it. I also apply fragrance to the tips of my hair because then it lasts longer. My French teacher told me that when I was in 8th grade and I don't know why it stuck with me.

HB: What about skin care?

AD: I use Tracie Martyn face mask once a week or once every two weeks, I go to my acupuncturist. It's the only thing that really makes a difference when you're feeling tired. I go surfing almost every day so I'm putting all that sunscreen on. In winter I get dry, so I'll use like Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

HB: Is surfing your main workout?

AD: Yeah, my boyfriend lives in Rockaway so I surf there and I bike around the city everywhere. At first, I didn't think biking would make a difference but I definitely notice that even if I don't go running, I still get fit in a way. It sounds a little annoying, but ever since I stopped working out, I just lose weight, so I figured, why start again? I used to run a lot so I think I would run like 8 miles a day or something like that. It just made me so hungry and I noticed that everyone around me was like, "Why do you always eat so much? It's so weird. Is it because you're a model and you have to prove you eat?" I was like, "No, I just run so much." But then I had a knee injury and I kind of stopped running and now surfing is enough.

HB: What's your one desert island beauty product?

AD: Coconut oil because it's on the island already so then I can bring something else with me.

HB: Favorite places to shop in NYC?

AD: Melet Mercantile; Allan & Suzi is this vintage store on Elizabeth and Lafayette and they just open whenever they want; Creatures of Comfort.

HB: What did you buy for fall?

AD: I actually bought some Donna Karan. They have these bodysuits that are made out of cashmere and I don't know if they're old or new, but I found them at Bloomingdales. They're just so comfortable. It feels like you're twirling around in fluff, like a kitten. So I got those, which were a good price for being cashmere. And I think I should buy some boots.

HB: Favorite social media platform?

AD: I started being on Snapchat recently, and I thought it was only my friends for a very long time and then I realized that there were like thousands of people watching really ridiculous things that I do throughout the day, like taking out the trash. So, I don't know what to do now because I thought it was a private thing. But it's fun. I don't really have a favorite type of social media because the most fun things you do, you don't post them on social media because you don't have your phone with you.

HB: Which Instagram accounts do you love?

AD: I like @maryam_nassir_zadeh@camillebwaddington and @davidzwirner. I have a lot of artsy ones and then charities and stuff like that. I think it's good to have some accounts that aren't people.

HB: Favorite places to eat in NYC?

AD: Navy and Mimi. Mimi is my best friend's restaurant so I'm there everyday and I really like the food at Navy and the chef is a friend, too.
