Need a quick diff? Chris Coyier

May 17, 2022

GitHub Gists will do diffs. Make a file and save it.

Then edit that file, and paste in the changed version. For me, this is often some crap I copied out of DevTools or some huge stringified object or something. Once it’s saved, the Revisions tab will say (2), and clicking it will show the dif.

Git difs look weird sometimes, but I can see there that the attribute allow-presentation is missing from the updated code. It’s hard to spot stuff like that sometimes. Difs are super useful!

That’s just what I have muscle memory for doing, but Shaw showed me Diffchecker the other day which is basically a way easier way of doing what I just showed you.

Dig it. No smurfing around with saving versions, just a quick check. And in this case, a more clear example of what was removed.
